King Tides, very high winter tides caused by an alignment of the sun and moon, will occur December 27 - 29 and January 13 - 17 in Birch Bay. The Washington Department of Ecology is asking coastal residents to take photos of the high tides to document potential impacts of sea level rise and climate change. Birch Bay residents can help by taking photos of an easy to recognize landmark during high tide events. For more information and directions on taking and submitting photos please go to http://www.ecy.wa.gov/climatechange/ipa_hightide.htm. Photo of a King Tide in 2010 (credit Seattle Times).
