Stormwater Improvements Construction Underway on Seaview Drive

Post date: Oct 16, 2015 3:33:56 PM

Construction began October 6 to improve the stormwater drainage system on Seaview Drive in the Cottonwood Neighborhood in Birch Bay. This project will replace failing pipes and culverts, improve existing ditches, and replace catch basins. These improvements will capture road and surface runoff and direct stormwater to the bioswale built in 2013 at the corner of Seaview Drive and Maple Crest Avenue. This will improve water quality by increasing the amount of water directed to the bioswale for treatment. Other project benefits include reduced local flooding and improved stormwater management above a steep bluff.

The Seaview Drive Drainage Upgrade Project is funded by the Birch Bay Watershed and Aquatic Resources Management (BBWARM) District and managed by Whatcom County Public Works. The contractor is Colacurcio Brothers of Blaine. Construction will occur Monday – Friday between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. and is scheduled to finish in early November. Drivers should be prepared for single-lane traffic and short-term, intermittent road closures along Seaview Drive during construction.
