Construction to Begin on Cottonwood Neighborhood Stormwater Capital Project

Post date: Jul 10, 2013 6:33:02 PM

Construction of a stormwater improvement project in the Cottonwood Neighborhood will begin in late July. This Birch Bay Watershed and Aquatic Resources Management (BBWARM) District capital project will replace a failing stormwater system to reduce the risk of flooding, improve water quality, and address safety problems created by the old stormwater system.

The Cottonwood Neighborhood Water Quality and Stormwater Drainage Improvements Project will include a new stormwater conveyance system under Cedar Avenue, an upgraded stormwater outfall structure, and installation of a bioswale to clean stormwater runoff. Most work will occur on Cedar Avenue from Halverson Park to the beach and below Seaview Drive and Maple Crest Avenue. Traffic control measures will be in place at times throughout construction; however, only minimal impacts are anticipated to drivers on Birch Bay Drive.

Len Honcoop Gravel of Lynden is the contractor for this $468,000 project. This project was designed by Reichhardt & Ebe Engineering and Whatcom County. Please contact Kraig Olason at Whatcom County Public Works Stormwater at (360) 715-7450 x50782 with questions.
